Analysis of roles and groups in blogosphere

In the paper different roles of users in social media, taking into consideration their strength of influence and different degrees of cooperativeness, are introduced. Such identified roles are used for the analysis of characteristics of groups of strongly connected entities. Different Approaches to Community Evolution Prediction in Blogosphere

Predicting the future direction of community evolution is a problem with high theoretical and practical significance. It allows to determine which characteristics describing communities have importance from the point of view of their future behaviour. Knowledge about the probable future career of the community aids in the decision concerning investing in contact with members of a given community and carrying out actions to achieve a key position in it. It also allows to determine effective ways of forming opinions or to protect group participants against such activities. In the paper, a new approach to group identification and prediction of future events is presented together with the comparison to existing method. Performed experiments prove a high quality of prediction results. Comparison to previous studies shows that using many measures to describe the group profile, and in consequence as a classifier input, can improve predictions.Comment: SNAA2013 at ASONAM2013 IEEE Computer Societ

Returning genome sequences to research participants:Policy and practice

Despite advances in genomic science stimulating an explosion of literature around returning health-related findings, the possibility of returning entire genome sequences to individual research participants has not been widely considered. Through direct involvement in large-scale translational genomics studies, we have identified a number of logistical challenges that would need to be overcome prior to returning individual genome sequence data, including verifying that the data belong to the requestor and providing appropriate informatics support. In addition, we identify a number of ethico-legal issues that require careful consideration, including returning data to family members, mitigating against unintended consequences, and ensuring appropriate governance. Finally, recognising that there is an opportunity cost to addressing these issues, we make some specific pragmatic suggestions for studies that are considering whether to share individual genomic datasets with individual study participants. If data are shared, research should be undertaken into the personal, familial and societal impact of receiving individual genome sequence data

Hybrydowy neuronowo-rozmyty klasyfikator oparty na modelu NEFCLASS

The paper presents hybrid neuro-fuzzy classifier, based on NEFCLASS model, which was modified. The presented classifier was compared to popular classifiers - neural networks and k-nearest neighbours. Efficiency of modifications in classifier was compared with methods used in original model NEFCLASS (learning methods). Accuracy of classifier was tested using 3 datasets from UCI Machine Learning Repository: iris, wine and breast cancer wis-consin. Moreover, influence of ensemble classification methods on classification accuracy was presented.Artykuł przedstawia zasadę działania oraz wyniki badań eksperymentalnych klasyfikatora opartego na hybrydzie sieci neuronowej z logiką rozmytą, bazujący na modelu NEFCLASS. Prezentacja struktury i działania klasyfikatora została zilustrowana wynikami eksperymentów porównawczych przeprowadzonych dla popularnych klasyfikatorów, takich jak perceptron wielowarstwowy k najbliższych sąsiadów. Skuteczność wprowadzonych modyfikacji do klasyfikatora została porównana z metodami używanymi w oryginalnym modelu NEFCLASS (metody uczenia). Jako dane benchmarkowe posłużyły wybrane bazy danych z UCI Machine Learning Repository (iris, wine, breast cancer wisconsin). Building sentiment lexicons based on recommending services for the Polish language

Sentiment analysis has become a prominent area of research in computer science. It has numerous practical applications; e.g., evaluating customer satisfaction, identifying product promoters. Many methods employed in this task require language resources such as sentiment lexicons, which are unavailable for the Polish language. Such lexicons contain words annotated with their emotional polarization, but the manual creation of sentiment lexicons is very tedious. Therefore, this paper addresses this issue and describes a new method of building sentiment lexicons automatically based on recommending services. Some Lithuanian ethnobotanical taxa: a linguistic view on Thorn Apple and related plants

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The perception and use of plants correspond with common plant names. The study of plant names may give insight into historical and recent use of plants.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Plant names in dictionaries and folklore have been evaluated. A etymological analysis of the names is provided. Onomasiological and semasiological aspects have been considered. Therefore, species named with names related to each other have been selected.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Plant names containing the stem <it>dag</it>- or <it>deg</it>- may belong to either of two categories: incenses or thorny plants. Plants named in <it>durn</it>- have been in use as psychopharmaca. The name <it>rymo </it>points not to Rome but to the use of plants as anodyne or psychopharmaca.</p
